Long, sunset-facing Sairee Beach is Koh Tao’s signature bay. The beach stretches northwards from Mae Haad for over 1.5km and is home to a myriad of dive schools, resorts, cafes, bars, restaurants and mini-marts.
As a result it’s a popular choice for those who like to have everything close by during their stay. The party scene is dominant here and starts when the dive boats return from their days out. The music bangs on late into the night and there’s ample opportunity to sink a bucket or two as the DJ’s play their tunes.
During the day, revellers take it easy on Sairee’s gorgeous sand and cool down in the clear waters of the bay. Snorkeling is possible from the beach where tropical fish glide effortlessly above the soft, creamy ripples of the seabed below.
Those who fancy a little jaunt north will find the stunning Koh Nang Yuan just a short longtail ride away.. a must-see paradise for anyone visiting Koh Tao.
As you can see from the outline of the bay, it’s perfect for strolling up and down and this is a popular pastime for those who stay in the area. Come dusk, the hammocks fill up and swing gently as the sun goes down in the west – and Sairee beach provides the perfect viewpoint for watching this unfold.
If you’re looking for a beach where everything is close by you’d be hard-pressed to find a better option than here. It’s easy to get to from the arrival port of Mae Haad so you’ll be in your paradise in no time at all and can come and go with ease whenever you fancy checking out the island’s other beaches.
The road behind the beach is teeming with tattoo shops, currency exchanges, ATMs, restaurants and bars. There are also plenty of mini-supermarkets to keep your water and beer stocks replenished in time for kicking back and watching sunset after sunset.
The beach is long and although it’s generally pretty noisy and busy here things are a little quieter on the northern part of the bay.
People who like to be near the heart of the action but prefer things a little quieter tend to stay up around the northern headland area of the beach which can be a good option.
Bear in mind though that although quieter you’ll still hear the noise of the partying here so may be better off choosing a different beach if you’re a light sleeper!
