If you’re looking to stay close to Koh Lanta’s arrival port then you should consider parking up on Klong Dao Beach, the most northerly of the main stretches of sand on the island.
With it’s location and proximity to the port and main town of Ban Sala Dan you’ll experience a trade-off in that it’s one of the busier and more developed beaches on the island. Some people like this though and perceive the wider choice of bars, restaurants and shops in the close vicinity as a plus point.
Things to do on Klong Dao beach
At the most northerly point on this 2km long beach there is a headland and some decent snorkeling in this area. The bay is also good for swimming and this is one the many reasons why families like it here.
It’s also great for strolling along, so if you like to wander whilst feeling of sand between your toes then you’ve certainly got it made here.
As you can see from this picture, Koh Lanta’s trademark sunsets are easy to see from Klong Dao beach. Restaurants and bars put cushions and chairs out on the sand so that guests and punters can have unbroken views of the sun going down when dusk arrives.
It is extremely relaxing to spend an hour or two with friends and a drink in hand as the spectacle unfolds before your eyes.. a perfect end to a perfect day!
Where to stay
The choice of accommodation is varied on this beach, with options to suit most tastes and budgets. The sheer size and length of the bay means that although it’s the most developed of Koh Lanta’s beaches it doesn’t really feel like it as there’s plenty of space to be found along it’s sandy expanses.
