The jungle-clad outcrops at each end of the cove really set the scene at this stunning west-facing bay.
If you’re looking for a sunset beach to stay on then Buffalo Bay (Ao Khao Kwai) could be the one although you’ll need to make sure you stay on the upper, most northern part of the bay to be able to see it properly drop into the ocean from your bungalow. Once in place, set yourself in for a memorable view!
Just a couple of kilometres from the boat jetty on Phayam island lies this sweeping semi-circular bay with several bungalow operations to choose from.
Bungalows rent out kayaks which allow you to explore the bay by yourself and there are plenty of beachside bars and restaurants to re-charge in when the need arises.
It’s a decent beach for swimming although very much tidal so the water retreats quite far at low tide to leave a vast flat area. However, this is perfect for strolling up and down when you’re tired of laying in your hammock, so all is good.
During high season (roughly Nov-Apr) you can relax in a bar here which is constructed predominantly from driftwood. This mellow, funky bar (called ‘Hippy Bar’) is the ideal place to grab a cold beer or cocktail and cool yourself down after long, hot days in the sun on Koh Phayam.
It has a great design and as you can see from the picture there are parts of it that resemble a ship.. it’s a very cool place to wind down!
